Gene Kimmelman
Senior Fellow at Yale’s Tobin Economic Policy Center and the Harvard Kennedy School researching antitrust and competition policy in digital markets
Gene Kimmelman is a U.S. attorney and consumer protection expert who specializes in antitrust law. Kimmelman currently is a Fellow at Yale’s Tobin Economic Policy Center and the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government in the Kennedy School. He served as Deputy Associate Attorney general in the Department of Justice (DOJ) overseeing antitrust policy during the first 18 months of the Biden Administration, and served as Chief Counsel for Competition Policy in the DOJ Antitrust Division during the Obama Administration. Kimmelman was formerly the president and chief executive officer of Public Knowledge, a public interest advocacy group. Prior to this, he worked at a variety of organizations, including the Consumers Union, Consumer Federation of America and Public Citizen. He is a graduate of Brown University and received a Fulbright Fellowship to study at the University of Copenhagen. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia where he received the Forstman Fellowship.
